EasyConvert / Date & Time

Unix Timestamp to Date Converter

Convert Unix timestamps in seconds or milliseconds to UTC, ISO 8601, and local dates. Choose the input unit explicitly when automatic detection is ambiguous.

About Unix Timestamp to Date Converter

Convert Unix seconds or milliseconds to readable dates and back.

The tool is designed to process data in the browser unless the interface explicitly states that a network request is required.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter or select the timestamp, epoch, date value you want to work with.
  2. Review the available settings, then run the convert action.
  3. Review the timestamp, date, unix time output and use the copy or download action when the tool provides one.

What you can do with Unix Timestamp Converter

  • Convert epoch to date
  • Turn date into unix timestamp

What this conversion does

Translate Unix epoch timestamps into human-readable UTC, ISO 8601, and local dates.

Example input

1767225600

Example output

2026-01-01T00:00:00.000Z (ISO 8601)

Practical workflow

  1. Paste the Unix timestamp and choose Auto detect, Seconds, or Milliseconds.
  2. Select ISO 8601, UTC text, or Local time as the primary output format.
  3. Copy the date from either result card; use the ISO result when sharing an exact instant across time zones.

Common use cases

  • Debug database timestamps, API response dates, and JWT expiration claims (exp, iat).
  • Convert server log timestamps into human-readable incident timelines.
  • Verify cron job execution dates and scheduled task triggers.

Important notes and limitations

  • Modern Unix seconds commonly have 10 digits; milliseconds commonly have 13.
  • Auto detection treats absolute values below 10,000,000,000 as seconds and larger values as milliseconds. Use an explicit unit for early dates or distant future dates.
  • Microseconds and nanoseconds are not input units in this tool. Convert those values to milliseconds before pasting.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Unix timestamp (Epoch time)?

A Unix timestamp is the total number of seconds that have elapsed since January 1, 1970 00:00:00 UTC (the Unix Epoch), not counting leap seconds.

How do I distinguish between seconds and milliseconds timestamps?

Current dates commonly use 10 digits for seconds and 13 for milliseconds. That is a heuristic, not a universal rule: choose Seconds or Milliseconds explicitly when the value is ambiguous.

Does the conversion account for Daylight Saving Time (DST)?

Yes. While UTC timestamps remain strictly linear, the local time calculation automatically accounts for your computer's time zone and DST rules.
