About Bcrypt Hash Generator & Verifier

Generate secure Bcrypt password hashes and verify hashes against plain text.

The tool is designed to process data in the browser unless the interface explicitly states that a network request is required.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter or select the password, bcrypt hash value you want to work with.
  2. Review the available settings, then run the hash action.
  3. Review the bcrypt hash, verification match status output and use the copy or download action when the tool provides one.

What you can do with Bcrypt Hash Generator & Verifier

  • Hash password with bcrypt
  • Verify bcrypt hash

What this conversion does

Generate real bcrypt password hashes with a chosen cost factor, and verify passwords against existing bcrypt hashes.

Example input

MySecretPassword123! at cost 10

Example output

$2b$10$N9qo8uLOickgx2ZMRZoMye… — verifiable by any bcrypt library

Practical workflow

  1. Type the password and pick a cost factor (10 is the common default; each +1 doubles the work).
  2. Copy the generated hash — every run uses a fresh random salt, so the same password produces different valid hashes.
  3. Use the Verifier tab to test a password against any pasted bcrypt hash.

Common use cases

  • Seed a database or fixture with valid bcrypt password hashes.
  • Verify which password matches a hash while debugging authentication.
  • Demonstrate how cost factors change hashing latency.

Important notes and limitations

  • Hashes are computed with the standard bcrypt algorithm locally in your browser and verify with bcrypt libraries in every language.
  • High cost factors (13+) can take seconds in the browser — that slowness is the point of bcrypt.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the same password give a different bcrypt hash every time?

Bcrypt embeds a random salt in each hash, so every generation differs while all of them verify against the original password. That is expected, correct behavior.

Can I check if a password matches an existing bcrypt hash?

Yes. The Verifier tab runs a real bcrypt comparison between the pasted hash and the password, exactly like a server-side login check.

What cost factor should I use?

10 is a sensible default; 12 for higher-security contexts. Each increment doubles computation time for both you and an attacker.
